Historie

The company De Martin AG has been founded in 1947 by Valentino De Martin.

Valentino De Martin was born on 30th of June, 1919, in Wängi/Switzerland as eighth of nine children of Italian immigrants. Being faced with an early death of their father, Valentino already had to work in young years to support the family. After graduating the secondary school, he completed an apprenticeship in galvanising at a company called Schellenbaum in Winterthur. Already then, Tino was dreaming of having his own company and he wanted to fullfil his dream as early as ever possible.

The dream finally came true in 1947 when the foundation of De Martin got reality.”

The dream finally came true in 1947 when the foundation of De Martin got reality. With only basic equipment in an old unused butchery building in Münchwilen, the first foundation stone was laid for todays' booming business.

The first hard steps in difficult post-war environment would not have been successful, if it was not for his wife Elisabeth. She strenghthened his position by bringing up their four children and also helping out in the factory. With great enthusiasm and power, a solid base was built, which survived all the crises and ups and downs of the last decade.

The assiduous work got paid. Under the guidance of the second generation, the small enterprise grew steadily. The two factories in Wängi were built in seven stages. The completion of the second factory in 2000 is an important cornerstone in the history of the company.

In 2004, the next change in generation happened. The management of the company was handed over to Thomas De Martin. Since then, investments in technology, infrastructure and last but not least into professional education of the employees are the principles for a successful future. This year, over 80 employees can take part in the celebrations of the 60st anniversary of De Martin AG.
